My #1 Bible Study Hack

Printing Passages for Deeper Insights

If you've been here a minute then you know I love to write in my Bible as I study. Underlining, highlighting and jotting down insights in my Bible makes study time so much richer (read more about how I mark my Bible here).

But, here's the thing: when I circle back to a passage or chapter for a second or third dive, I'm met with a colorful record of my previous thoughts and reflections. And as much as I treasure these, they sometimes make it tough to see the scripture with fresh eyes. I want to be able to discover new insights that I might have missed the first time around.

That's why I've adopted a simple, yet effective hack that totally solves the problem: printing out the passages. Yep, it's as straightforward as it sounds, but don't let its simplicity fool you. This little trick allows me to approach God's Word free from the influence of past notes. It's like meeting with an old friend and discovering new facets of their personality you hadn't noticed before.

Here's my process:

Navigate to www.biblegateway.com to find the passage you're interested in exploring deeper.

Once you've found it, simply copy and paste the text into a document using any word processor you prefer, like Google Docs, Microsoft Word, or Pages.

After pasting, I enjoy customizing the text a bit to make it easier on the eyes; my go-to font is Quicksand Light because of its clean and simple aesthetic.

Next, I adjust the layout by placing each verse on a separate line and adding extra space between lines for notes and markings.

And just like that, you're ready to print! You'll have a neatly prepared Bible passage ready for an insightful study session.

I like to keep my printed pages in my handy dandy Bible study binder. Don't have one of those? Head here to find out how to make your own!
